A Dream Realized: Journey to the Magic Planet
For the longest time, my family and I harbored a grand dream to visit Thiruvananthapuram. Our primary goal wasn't just to see the usual sights; we wanted to experience the sheer wonder of Magic Planet. This isn't your run-of-the-mill theme park—it is a completely unique, enchanting world dedicated entirely to the art of magic, standing proudly as the first of its kind on the globe! Another huge driving force for our visit was my deep respect and admiration for the internationally acclaimed magician, Gopinath Muthukad. He is the visionary and brilliant mind behind this beautiful place.

Planning a multi-family trip can sometimes be a bit overwhelming, but we were incredibly lucky. My dear friend, Sajjad, kindly stepped forward and promised to arrange all the travel facilities for us. Thanks to his generous help and meticulous planning, everything became so easy and smooth. We packed our bags brimming with excitement, ready to experience a day full of magical illusions and endless smiles.

Magic Planet is strategically located at the Kinfra Film and Video Park in Kazhakkoottam, Thiruvananthapuram. Established by the famous magician Gopinath Muthukad, its primary mission is to promote the art of magic, preserve street magic traditions, and financially support marginalized artist communities.
Entering the World of Wonders
We arrived at the gates of Magic Planet early in the morning. The park opens its doors to eager visitors starting at 9:30 AM, and the magical journey flows continuously until 5:00 PM. As soon as we stepped inside, we realized something wonderful about the park's layout: you never have to wander around blindly trying to find your way. There are plenty of friendly, energetic staff members stationed all over the park. They guide you warmly from one show to the next, ensuring that you don't miss a single bit of the action.
Right at the start, there was a brilliant interactive moment. A street performer tried very hard to make a serious, non-smiling man in the crowd laugh. It was absolutely hilarious to watch the performer pull out all the stops and comically fail! Just as we were chuckling at this interaction, the energy skyrocketed with a lively Welcome Dance. This beautiful choreography set an incredibly happy, festive tone for the rest of our day.
From the courtyard, the staff smoothly led us to the Intimate Dance Hall. This is a cozy, low-lit space that can hold about fifty people at a time. Because the hall is small, they conduct the shows in different batches so that everyone gets a crystal-clear, front-row view. We took our seats right near the stage, waiting with bated breath for the close-up magic to begin.

Make sure to plan your arrival at Magic Planet by 9:15 AM. Arriving early ensures you catch the full welcome dance and get sorted into the very first batch for the indoor shows, saving you precious waiting time later in the day.
Mind-Boggling Tricks and the Tempest Theater
The intimate show started, and it was packed full of surprises from the very first minute. Suddenly, the performing magician called my young son up onto the stage! We were all watching closely, completely hooked. With a swift flick of his hands, the magician appeared to pull a small, solid ball right out of my son's nose! The look of pure, unadulterated amazement on my son's face was absolutely priceless. Honestly, even now, the wonder of that moment hasn't left us—we still talk about how he managed to pull off that sleight of hand!
Next, we moved sequentially from one themed room to another to witness different styles of illusion. We were amazed by the Mirror Magic, an act that played complex tricks on our eyes and perception. Then came the Balloon Magic and Paper Magic, where simple, everyday items were transformed into extraordinary objects right in front of us. The children were completely captivated.
After these close-up wonders, we were ushered to the grand Tempest Theater. This was undeniably a massive highlight of the day. They took William Shakespeare's famous play, 'The Tempest', and turned it into an immersive artistic masterpiece. It wasn't just acting—it was a beautiful, seamless mix of illusion, classical dance, powerful theatrical sound effects, and brilliant light design. For a moment, it felt like we had been transported into a different century altogether.
Thrills at the Circus Castle and Comedy Magic
Once the theater show concluded, we walked over to the Circus Castle. Here, we were treated to a whole hour of spectacular, heart-stopping circus performances. Highly skilled acrobats were flying, tumbling, and balancing in ways that defied gravity. The most shocking segment was a balancing act executed by a wildly talented artist from Ethiopia. He balanced atop shaky, towering structures with so much ease that our hearts practically skipped a beat! The entire crowd watched in absolute pin-drop silence, which was immediately followed by a deafening roar of applause when he safely dismounted.
After all that heavy tension, we definitely needed some lighthearted moments to decompress. Luckily, our next scheduled stop was the Comedy Magic show. This performance lasted for about half an hour, and it was pure, unadulterated joy. The magician expertly combined funny, interactive jokes with clever illusions. We laughed so much that our stomachs physically hurt by the end. It was the perfect palate cleanser after the intense circus acts.
By the time the comedy show wrapped up, we realized it was already 1:30 PM. Time truly flies when you are having fun! We were given a well-timed half-hour break for lunch. We headed to the food court located right inside the Magic Planet campus. They served a grand, delicious, and traditional Kerala lunch complete with an array of curries and side dishes. It tasted exactly like a home-cooked feast and fueled us up perfectly for the second half of our adventure.
Mind Reading and the Inspiring M-Power Show
With our energy fully restored, we made our way to the Mentalism Show. This performance entirely blew our minds. The mentalist was able to seemingly read the thoughts of random audience members. He correctly guessed secrets, names, and numbers that only the chosen viewers could possibly know. It felt a bit spooky but was deeply, undeniably fascinating!
Next came what was undoubtedly the most emotional and beautiful part of our entire trip: the M-Power Show. This is a very special magic program performed entirely by specially-abled children. These wonderful young talents were personally trained by Gopinath Muthukad sir himself. Seeing their intense focus, their remarkable talent, and the bright, proud smiles on their faces brought tears to many eyes in the auditorium. They performed complex tricks flawlessly. As the curtain closed, the entire audience stood up and cheered for them with a thunderous standing ovation. It was a deeply moving, heartwarming experience that we will never forget.

During the mentalism show, a brave volunteer from the crowd tried to actively trick the mentalist by changing their mind at the absolute last second. Miraculously, the performer still guessed the correct final answer! The utterly shocked look on the volunteer's face made the entire room burst out laughing.
The Grand Illusion Finale and Parade
Following the incredible M-Power show, we were guided to the largest auditorium in Magic Planet. It was finally time for the highly anticipated one-hour Mega Illusion Show. This performance was a stunning tribute to the classic, grand-scale magic shows that Gopinath Muthukad used to perform across the world. There were massive prop boxes, logic-defying disappearing acts, and breathtaking levitation tricks. The dramatic lighting combined with the soaring background music made the atmosphere feel completely electric. We thoroughly enjoyed every single second of this spectacular grand finale.
As the late afternoon slowly turned into evening, the crowds moved outside to an open-air area built beautifully in the shape of the famous India Gate. Here, they hosted a vibrant cultural show that celebrated the rich, artistic diversity of India. It was a colorful, high-energy mix of traditional Indian dances and classic street magic tricks. The performance reached its absolute peak with a flawless execution of the legendary Indian Rope Magic trick, which left the audience staring up at the sky in total disbelief.
To finish the day in the best way possible, all the performing artists, talented magicians, and costumed characters came together for a lively grand parade across the park pathways. They waved at the departing visitors, played upbeat music, and danced through the crowds. It was a remarkably colorful and joyful ending to our adventure. At exactly 5:00 PM, all the programs came to a satisfying close. With our hearts completely full of joy, sweet memories, and endless wonder, we finally said goodbye to Magic Planet and started our scenic drive back home.
