My name is Ikbal, and this is the deep dive into the most exciting part of my Bangkok trip—a full day dedicated to wildlife and spectacular shows at Safari World!
For a budget traveler, maximizing time and minimizing cost is key. This destination required careful planning, as it's located about 40 kilometers outside the city center, a journey that involved multiple steps.
🚇 The Commute to the Wild
Getting to Safari World required navigating Bangkok's fantastic, but extensive, public transport system.
🐒 Morning of Wonders: Intelligence & Action
My goal was to catch the famous shows right when the park opened. I made sure to be at the arena precisely at the scheduled time to grab a front-row seat!
10:05 AM: The Orangutan Show
I arrived just in time for the Orangutan Show and secured a spot right at the front. These highly intelligent creatures were the stars of the morning! Their hilarious antics and incredible coordination—performing acrobatics and comedy routines—were truly engaging. Time flew by watching their complex, yet playful, performance.
11:00 AM: The Elephant Show
Next up were the gentle giants. The Elephant Show was unbelievable! I watched these majestic, well-trained elephants display skills that seemed impossible for their size—from kicking soccer balls around with surprising agility to actually painting pictures. Their obedience and skill were a testament to their handlers' training and the elephants' own capacity for learning.
11:45 AM: The Spy War Show
This was pure adrenaline! The Spy War Show was a high-octane spectacle filled with intense action, dramatic fight choreography, and stunning explosions.
🍽️ Midday Break and Aquatic Entertainment
After the thrill of the spy show, I was ready for lunch. I headed to the Blossom Restaurant and treated myself to a well-deserved, delicious buffet spread, recharging for the afternoon's entertainment.
The park's focus shifted to water-based performances:
1:45 PM: The Dolphin Show: The synchronized jumps and playful tricks of the dolphins were an absolute delight, filling the arena with sounds of cheering and splashing.
2:00 PM: The Sea Lion Show: These charming marine mammals were fantastic entertainers, balancing balls and interacting with their handlers in a truly heartwarming display.
🦁 The Grand Finale: The Open Zoo Safari
At 3:00 PM, the moment I had been waiting for arrived: the tour through the Open Zoo Safari Park. This wasn't a typical zoo visit; we boarded an air-conditioned bus to drive directly through the large, natural habitats of the animals.
What made this experience unforgettable was the complete absence of cages or fences. We were separated from the wildlife only by the windows of our bus.
Majesty of the Predators: We drove past large prides of tigers, walking with a powerful grace that felt awe-inspiring to witness up close.
Towering Giants: I watched herds of giraffes, stretching their long necks effortlessly to graze on tree branches.
Striped Herds: Groups of zebras grazed peacefully, offering picture-perfect views of these striking animals in their natural element.
Reptile Ponds: The tour included water bodies teeming with crocodiles, a reminder of the raw power of nature.
Seeing these animals roam freely, unrestricted by steel or concrete, was truly a moving and humbling experience.
Before making my way back, I stopped for one last fun photo opportunity with one of the resident orangutans—a perfect souvenir from an incredible day!
✈️ Conclusion of the Adventure
From the park, I took another bike taxi to the nearest metro station. I picked up some chocolates at a nearby supermarket—a must-do before leaving any country—and rode the metro back to the airport.
My flight, delayed by an hour, finally took off and landed late at night in Kochi, India. From there, it was an auto-rickshaw to Angamaly and a final bus ride home. The two-day solo adventure to Bangkok had come to a fantastic close, leaving me with a trove of memories, especially those from the spectacular, wild world of Safari World.
